3-Day / 2-Night Desert Tour from Marrakech to Merzouga and Back

Your journey begins with a pick-up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech at 8:00 AM, heading south toward the spectacular High Atlas Mountains. As you travel through the mountains, you will cross the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, one of the highest mountain passes in Morocco. Several scenic stops are planned along the way, allowing you to stretch your legs, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and take photos of the breathtaking panoramic views and dramatic landscapes. Continuing the journey, you will arrive at Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, where you will enjoy a guided visit of this traditional kasbah and learn about its history, architecture, and local way of life. The route then continues toward Ouarzazate, often referred to as the Hollywood of Morocco. Here, you will stop to see the famous film studios from the outside, where many international movies and series have been filmed. The journey proceeds through the beautiful Rose Valley, known for its fragrant rose fields and artisanal products. You will have the opportunity to visit a local women’s cooperative, where rose-based cosmetic and culinary products are made using traditional methods. In the late afternoon, continue toward the impressive Dadès Gorges, famous for their dramatic rock formations and scenic roads. The day ends with dinner and overnight in Dadès, allowing you to relax and enjoy the peaceful mountain surroundings.

After a hearty breakfast at your hotel, depart toward the spectacular Todra Gorges, a breathtaking natural site where towering limestone cliffs rise dramatically on both sides of a narrow canyon. Take time to explore the area, admire the scenery, and capture memorable photos. After the visit, continue to the town of Tinjedad, where you will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, travel onward to Erfoud, a town famous for its rich fossil deposits. Here, you will visit a marble fossil workshop, discovering ancient marine fossils and how they are transformed into unique decorative pieces. Later, continue toward the Merzouga Desert, home to the impressive Erg Chebbi dunes. Upon arrival, experience a memorable camel ride across the golden dunes, perfectly timed to enjoy the sunset over the Sahara. The ride concludes at your desert camp, where you will settle in for the night. In the evening, enjoy a traditional dinner, followed by Berber drumming and music around the campfire, creating a magical and authentic desert atmosphere. Overnight in the desert camp.

After breakfast at the camp, enjoy a camel ride back to Merzouga, where your return journey to Marrakech begins. Departing Merzouga, travel through Rissani, a historic town known as the cradle of the Alaouite dynasty and admired for its traditional Moroccan architecture. Continue through Alnif and Tazzarine, passing striking desert and pre-Saharan landscapes along the way. The route then leads into the lush Draa Valley, one of Morocco’s longest and most scenic valleys, lined with palm groves and ancient villages. You will stop to visit Nkob and the historic Ksar of Tamnougalt, an impressive fortified village that reflects the region’s rich cultural and architectural heritage. Arriving in Ouarzazate, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before continuing the journey back to Marrakech. In the afternoon, cross the High Atlas Mountains, offering spectacular panoramic views and scenic photo stops along the way. Arrival in Marrakech is expected around 8:00 PM, marking the end of your memorable 3-day desert adventure.
